Santa meet and greet offered for kids with sensory issues

PEORIA (25 NEWS) - An opportunity for kids to meet Santa took place Sunday, for children who might not normally be comfortable with the lines and crowds that usually come along with the experience.

Five families came out to Central Illinois Total Spectrum’s 7th annual ‘Sensitive Santa’ event at Northwoods mall in Peoria.

Assistant Clinical Director at Central Illinois Total Spectrum, Jennie Sullivan, said the goal is to create a comfortable environment for kids who may need a different way to meet Santa. Total Spectrum said Santa is trained to take cue’s from parents in order to make sure each child’s needs are met.

No music is played during the meeting and only white lights are on to accommodate for sensory issues. The meetings also take place when the mall is not open to avoid crowds.
